Radcliffe fall as 20/20 Super Six gets going

Defending champions of the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/20 Flow Radcliffe met a stumbling block when the Super Six phase bowled off last Sunday.

After having it all their way in the preliminary phase, Radcliffe were ditched by Guardian General Saints by 24 runs at the Sion Hill venue.

Jerron John, 47, and Rickford Walker, 37, propped up Saints’ innings of 159 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Andy Harper captured 2 for 21, Lindon James, 2 for 27 and Delorn Johnson, 2 for 36, bowling for Radcliffe.

At their turn, Radcliffe were cornered at 135 for 8 from their allotment.

Gidron Pope, who stroked 54, and Lindon James, 31, were Radcliffe’s principal scorers, as Romel Currency snapped 3 for 8, Kenroy Peters, 2 for 19 and Kimali Williams, 2 for 21, sharing the wickets for Saints.

Also in winner’s row were Team Rivals and Victors One.

At Arnos Vale Two, Team Rivals swamped Smashers by 39 runs.

Hyron Shallow struck an even 100 not out, his second century against the same opponents, while Casmond Walters hit 37, to plot Team Rivals to 189 for 4 from 18 overs.

Shallow’s innings contained 12 fours and a half dozen sixes.

In response, Smashers reached 150 for 7 led by Kirton Lavia’s 54 and Raymond Rouse’s 26.

The chief wicket taker for Team Rivals was the wily Olanzo Jackson, who snared 4 for 16.

Meanwhile, at Arnos Vale One, Victors One defused Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward by six wickets.

Batting first, North Leeward were short-circuited for 98 in 15.5 overs. Christopher Howe was the top scorer with 24, as Norlan Williams and Alston Bob both turned in 3 for 21, while Shaqullie Browne took 2 for 16.

In reply, Victors One made 99 for 4. Chrisroy John hit 36 and Miles Bascombe, 26.

Christopher Howe captured all four wickets that fell for 23 runs.

Before Sunday afternoon’s start of the Super- 50, the last three matches of the preliminary round were played; two on Saturday and one Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Gidron Pope slammed his second ton when he scored 108 not out from 68 balls versus Combined Youths at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

Pope’s innings contained 10 fours and 6 sixes, as Radcliffe posted 173 for 7. Geron Wyllie grabbed 3 for 26.

Combined Youths made 103. Oneil Endeavour, 47, hit three fours and three sixes, as Dyke Cato picked off 4 for 12, Andy Harper, 3 for 28 and Othneil Lewis, 2 for 27.

Also on Saturday, at the Sion Hill Playing Field, Team Rivals blanked out Police by three runs in a nervy finish.

Team Rivals made 130 for 8; Casmond Walters had 46, with one four and five sixes and Hyron Shallow, 39.

Bowling for Police Sylvan Spencer took 2 for 20.

Police replied with 127 for 6, with Parnel Browne scoring 35 and Donson Andrews, 33. Olanzo Jackson had 2 for 21.

The loss by Police resulted in Smashers gaining a place in the last six.

And, in a match of mere academic interest, Victors One defeated Strike Eagles by 78 runs.

Victors One rattled up 175 for 5 from their 20 overs.

Atticus Browne stroked 59 and Miles Bascombe, 57, while Darren John had 2 for 37, bowling for Strike Eagles.

In reply, Strike Eagles had their wings clipped by the Victors One’s bowling and fell for 97 in 19.4 overs.

Domarley Roberts was the top scorer with 22.

Six matches in the Super Six round are set for this weekend.

On Saturday, Victors One meet Saints Arnos Vale Two; Team Rivals play North Leeward at Sion Hill and at Arnos Vale One, Smashers take on Radcliffe.

Sunday’s fixtures pit Radcliffe versus Rivals at Arnos Vale One; Saints engage North Leeward at Arnos Vale Two and at Sion Hill Smashers take on Victors One.

The two top teams from the round robin Super Six phase will square off in the final, carded for March 4.
