SVG to host Group E of CFU Club Championships
Three soccer teams from throughout the region will descend on St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in March for Group E of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship.
The CFU Club Championship, also known as the CFU Club Championsâ Cup, is being hosted locally by the Ian Sardine led System Three Sports Academy. Sardineâs System Three Football Club will also take part in the competition.
Games in the SVG leg of the competition will be played at the Victoria Park.
GROUP E (SVG) is made up of Flames United SC (Sint Maarten), San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad), System 3 Sport Academy (SVG) and Club Sportif Moulien (Guadaloupe).
On March 8, Flames United SC will play San Juan Jabloteh, while System 3 Sport Academy will take on Club Sportif Moulien. On March 10, 2017, San Juan Jabloteh will go up against Club Sportif Moulien, while System 3 Sport Academy will lock horns with Flames United SC. March 12 will see Club Sportif Moulien try their luck against Flames United SC and System 3 Sport Academy will take on San Juan Jabloteh.
Some 20 sides from 11 countries qualified for the 19th edition of the competition, which will determine the regionâs representatives to the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. The tournament is the annual international football competition held amongst association football clubs from the Caribbean that are members of CFU and serves as a qualifying event for the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament.
The first round consists of five groups of four teams, which will play a round robin format from late February through March. Greenbay Hoppers FC (Antigua & Barbuda), Don Bosco FC (Haiti), Montego Bay United FC (Jamaica), Central FC (Trinidad & Tobago) and System 3 Sport Academy (St Vincent & the Grenadines) will host the group stage games.
Group A teams will play at the Antigua Recreation Ground, while Group Bâs games will be held at the Stade Sylvio Cator â Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Group C games will be played at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Jamaica and Group D games at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad. Group E matches will be held at the Victoria Park here.
The five group winners will advance to the final round, scheduled to be played from May 13 to 21.
The other participating teams in alphabetical order are, Bequia United FC (St Vincent & the Grenadines), Central FC (Trinidad & Tobago), Cibao FC (Dominican Republic), Club Barcelona Atletico (Dominican Republic), Don Bosco FC (Haiti), Elite Sport Club (Cayman Islands), Greenbay Hoppers FC (Antigua & Barbuda), Grenades FC (Antigua & Barbuda), Inter Moengo Tapoe (Suriname), Montego Bay United FC (Jamaica), Police FC (Montserrat), Portmore United FC (Jamaica), Racing FC des Gonaives (Haiti), Scholars International (Cayman Islands), SV Transvaal (Suriname) and USR Sainte-Rose (Guadeloupe).
