Shem Browne powers Owia Stars in Saturday’s national 20/20

Shem Browne slammed 97 to lead Owia Stars to a comfortable 54-run win over Strike Eagles at Arnos Vale Two, to highlight Saturday’s action of the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/0 Cricket Competition.

Browne’s efforts contained 6 fours and 7 sixes, and helped Owia Stars to 184 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs. Dwayne Henry contributed 24.

Strike Eagles, in response, were dismissed for 130. Shem Browne also struck with the ball, taking 2 for 17, but it was his younger brother Dean Browne, whose 3 for 12 was the pick of Owia Stars’ bowling.

Rellon Mc Kie was Strike Eagles’ top scorer, making 30.

Shem Browne was declared Player of the Match.

Also triumphing on Saturday were Team Rivals, Victors Two, Providence Electronic Solutions North Leeward and Belfongo.

Team Rivals peppered Radcliffe Too by 10 wickets at Arnos Vale One.

Radcliffe Too got to 95 for 9 from 18 overs. Phillip Baptiste led with 24.

Player of the Match Casmond Walters was the destroyer with the ball, bagging 5 for 21, bowling for Team Rivals.

Hyron Shallow then stroked 7 fours and a six in his blistering knock of 46 not out and Harley Skerritt – 44 not out, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes, to lead Team Rivals to 96 without loss in 10.5 overs.

Meanwhile, the two matches played at Sion Hill resulted in losses for the SVG Community College’s teams.

Victors Two got past RW Sporting World SVG Community College by 12 runs.

Hector Cordice scored 38 and Shamic Roberts 26, to see Victors Two to 104 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Rayshorn John picked up 5 for 16, bowling for the students.

Adinol Richards – 4 for 22, Leon Quashie – 2 for 15 and Gerald Gould – 2 for 20, conjured up to dismiss their opponents for 92 in 18 overs. Anfernee Joseph was the mainstay of the college’s reply, making 35.

Adding to the institution’s second defeat was North Leeward, who stopped the French Verandah SVG Community College outfit by 10 runs.

Both Amansford Richards and Shammon Hooper hit 21 to lead North Leeward to 120 for 9 from their 20 overs. Jeremy Layne – 2 for 15 and Tijourn Pope – 2 for 18, were the best bowlers for their team.

French Verandah Community College in reply reached 110 for 9 from their corresponding 20 overs.

Jeremy Layne – 24, Urnel Thomas – 20, along with 20 extras, were the main statistics in the response.

Bowling for North Leeward, Kemrick and Allison Samuel shared the honours, as both took 2 for 13.

Travis Cumberbatch cracked 3 fours and 6 sixes in his knock of 52 not out, in a late order rally at Buccament, to take Belfongo to a two-wicket win over Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO.

Cumberbatch and Rajiv Roberts (16 not out) shared in an unbeaten ninth wicket partnership of 69, to pull Belfongo from 44 for 8, to 113 without further loss.

Kenson Dalzell had taken 4 for 17 and Andre Hunte – 3 for 6, bowling for ASCO.

In ASCO’s innings of 112 all out in 19.5 overs, Deron Greaves led with 43, while Kentish Phillips picked off 4 for 14 and Oswald Soleyn – 4 for 32.(RT)
