Vincentian athlete sets US college’s new indoor records
Vincentian athlete Shantal Rouse broke two individual indoor schoolâs records last Friday in the USA.
Rouse, competing for the Kingsborough Community College of New York, last Friday at the New York City Gotham Cup Event, set new marks in the 60m and the 200m.
In the 60m run, Rouse clocked 7.78 seconds, to erase the previous best mark of 7.99 seconds, set in 2009.
Rouse timed 25.42 seconds in the 200m, bettering the 25.51 seconds registered in 2015.
Then, on Saturday, at the University of Albany Great Dane Classic, Rouse teamed up with Tatyana Mills, Ajani Bethel-Nurse and Thea General to take the 4 x 400m.
In the process, the foursome broke the schoolâs record and established the second fastest time in the country for junior colleges. The quartetâs time was 3 minutes 54.84 seconds.
Rouse last represented IT-DAT Academy in local meets put on by Team Athletics SVG.
She is a former record holder at the Inter-Secondary Schoolsâ Meets and was part of the St Vincent and the Grenadines team to the inaugural Youth Olympics held in Singapore in 2010.
Rouse also represented St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Windward Islands Schoolsâ Games and the OECS Track and Field Championships.
Additionally, she is a former national Under-23 netballer.
