Desron Maloney keeps sentry in Police’s T/20 win
Desron Maloney saluted his entry to the local constabulary with a belligerent half century last Saturday at the Sion Hill Playing Field in the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams 20/20 cricket competition.
In a quick march, Maloney belted 7 sixes and a solitary four in his knock of 71 for his new team â Police, as he initiated RW Sporting World SVG Community College to the competition.
Maloney, who was the commander in chief for Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO for the last five years, along with Salvan Browne, shared in a partnership of 105 runs for the second wicket.
Browne was 42 not out in the end, striking 3 fours and a six, while Donson Andrews struck 4 fours in his 25, as Police made 186 for 3 from their 20 overs.
SVG Community College team was shackled throughout their 20 overs, only making 66 for 5.
Romando Mars was the top scorer, with 22 not out. Bowling for the lawmen, Kenroy Martin picked up 2 for 17, to see his team win by 120 runs in a Group B fixture.
Maloney was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Also on Saturday, ASCO, despite being without the services of Maloney, made a winning start to their campaign in Group C, beating North Stars by 20 runs at the Buccament Playing Field.
Kelshun Da Silva top sored with 46 and Roger Gibson contributed 37 in ASCOâs total 147.
Bowling for North Stars, Allison Samuel bagged 5 for 25 and Winston Samuel â 3 for 29.
North Stars, in response, fell short, reaching 127 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Allison Samuel followed up his fiver with a top score of 43, to take the Man of the Match award and Winston Samuel chipped in with 20.
For ASCO, Nelron Toby snared 4 for 21 and Andre Hunte raked in 2 for 27.
And, Saturdayâs other Group C match resulted in Guardian General Saints thumping Belfongo by nine wickets.
Belfongo laboured to 125 for 9. Stein Joseph led with 40, while Teran Simon gathered 3 for 19, Nesron Samuel â 2 for 18 and Rolando Wright â 2 for 31, bowling for Saints.
Rickford Walker then registered 68 not out; Vincent Cupid made 22 and Romel Currency â 21 not out, as Saints replied with 128 for 1.
