Throws classic to get TASVG 2017 calendar going

A throws classic this Saturday from 9:15 a.m. to noon at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field gets Team Athletics SVG’s 2017 calendar of events going.

But most of all, it will test the local track and field organization’s success at investing in Grenadian Paul Phillip, who is a field event specialist.

Phillip made two visits here, last September and December, seeking out then fine tuning talents in the throws.

While here on his most recent sojourn last month, Phillip identified at least two athletes, whom he believes, if given the right training can reach the finals of their respective events at this year’s Junior Carifta Games.

Phillip also projected that it is also a possibility that they can medal.

Saturday’s programme will involve the shot putt, discus and javelin, and athletes will compete in the age categories U-15, U-18, U- 20 and 20 and over.

Competitors in the U- 15 age group must be born 2003 and later; U-18 – 2000 and later and U-20 – 1998 and later.

To qualify to contest the 20 and over age group, competitors must be born 1997 and earlier.
