Star players receive awards in Calliaqua small goal competition

The star players of the 2017 edition of the Calliaqua area New Year’s Day small goal football competition were recognized following the completion of last Sunday’s event at the Culture Pot Square.

Taking the most valuable player of the competition was Choppins Love’s Osei Thompson. One of the emerging footballers in the country, Thompson was first in the limelight in the 2013 competition, when he copped the Most Promising Player award.

Two other awards were copped by Choppins Love players at last Sunday’s presentation ceremony.

The duo of Noah Joseph and Tevin Thompson were named the Most Disciplined Player and Player of the Final, respectively. Choppins Love’s Ronald Joseph, with three goals, won the award for most goals, with Choppins No Nonsense’s Dijah John rewarded for scoring the best goal of the competition.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, parliamentary representative for East St George Camillo Gonsalves noted that he embraced the concept, as it brought the area together in a spirit of “ love, peace and unity”, despite the combative nature of the competition.

Gonsalves, who was one of the contributors to making the event another success, promised again that the next edition will be “bigger and better”.(RT)
