North East take Masters Cricket title
North East landed their second hold on the SVG Masters Twenty/20 Cricket title, crafting a six-wicket win over the St Vincent Cooperative Bank Pâtani, when the Sion Hill Playing Field hosted the 2016 final, last Sunday.
The win gave North East a second lien on the title, having championed in their debut year in 2014.{{more}}
In Sundayâs final, firsttime finalists in the competition Pâtani won the toss and chose to bat, and after a promising platform, faltered to finish on 119 for 6 from their 20 overs.
Isaacs Haywood top scored with 35 and Jerome Samuel contributed 32.
A measured approach to the victory target was employed by North East, after losing Peter Campbell in the first over of their run chase.
North East reached their target with 13 balls to spare, posting 121 for 4.
Arnold Gilkes struck – 31, Hollis John â 24, Deighton Butler â 23 and Winsbert Springer â 23 not out, doing so from 8 balls.
Michael Jack was Pâtaniâs most successful bowler, taking 2 for 29. Deighton Butler was adjudged Player of the Final.
North East gained their berth in the final by stopping 2015 winners RSVG Police by five wickets on Saturday, at the same Sion Hill venue.
