Local cricketers highlighted at SVGCA annual awards ceremony
Those cricketers and teams who carved out top performances during the staging of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc 2016 domestic season, were last Saturday night highlighted at the Media Centre of the Arnos Vale Playing Field at the associationâs annual awards and recognition ceremony.{{more}}
Awards were presented to the standouts in the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams Twenty/20 Competition, the NLA Premier and First Divisions and the Womenâs 40-over competition.
The Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO pair of Deron Greaves and Andre Hunte was the top batsman and bowler respectively. Greaves scored the most runs â 261 and Hunte checked the most wickets â 12.
Casmond Walters of Team Rivals had the best all-round performance, as he hit 205 runs and claimed seven wickets.
Greaves also scored the most runs in the Premier Division competition â 446, with Flow Radcliffeâs Dyke Cato for the fourth occasion in succession, the top bowler, with 36 wickets.
As he did in the 20/20 version, Casmond Walters carried over his all-round effort, as he was declared the best all-rounder. Walters tallied 188 runs and roped in 23 wickets to the good.
The winner of the Premier Division was also Flow Radcliffe.
Meanwhile, in the First Division, the French Verandah SVG Community Collegeâs Jeremy Layne carted off the best all-round award, scoring 293 runs and capturing 11 wickets. Layne also earned the most runs award.
The accolade of most wickets went Smashersâ Javon Samuel, who had 23 wickets to his name. Smashers copped the First Division title.
And, among the top performers in the womenâs competition was Cordel Jack of champion outfit United Survivors.
Jack was the recipient of the best all-rounder award, for her 155 runs and five wickets. Jackâs team mate Camille Garrick was the leading wicket taker, grabbing nine wickets.
The top run getter was Juliana Nero of Garifuna Stars. Nero counted 167 runs in total.
Last Saturdayâs awards ceremony was taken a notch up, from the customary cocktail, to a gala dinner.(RT)
