North Leeward Cricket to crown new champion
The new champion will be crowned this Sunday at the Petit Bordel Playing Field, in the 2016 VINLEC North Leeward Cricket 20/20 Competition, when Ajuba and Peto Stars meet in the grand finale.{{more}}
Ajuba, of Spring Village, ensured that defending champion Circumstance of Fitz Hughes had no more say in the competition, disposing of them by six wickets in last Sundayâs first semi-final.
The powerful Circumstance batting fell for 147 off 19.3 overs, with Rickford Walker hitting 54 and Omar Tucker 27.
Bowling for Ajuba, Roneil Jeffery had 3 for 34, Leon Samuel 2 for 27 and Kimarlie Williams 2 for 29.
In response, Ajuba posted 153 for 4, off 18.2 overs; Kenny Stapleton made 43 and Leon Samuel, 37.
In Sundayâs second semi-final match, home team Peto Stars had a comfortable seven-wicket win over Carlos James Troumaca Starlight.
Batting first, Troumaca Starlight were dismissed for 114 off 17.2 overs.
Their total was beefed up by Nicklon Alexander, who struck 66.
For Peto Stars, Kesrick Westfield grabbed 4 for 27, while Ronique Laborde had 3 for 16.
Peto Stars then rushed to 117 for 3 off 11.4 overs; Shammon Hooper scored 46 and Ortis Matthews, 29 not out.
Before Sundayâs showdowns, there were two quarter-finals played on Saturday, resulting in triumphs for Ajuba and Troumaca Starlight.
Ajuba came out victors by six wickets over RSVG Police.
When the cut-off point of the innings came, RSVG Police had scored 186 for 4 off 16 overs.
Selrick Cain â 50, Kenneth Dember â 44 and Donson Andrews â 34, were the principal scorers.
Roneil Jeffery then stroked 59 not out and Michael Joseph, 58 not out, as the two featured in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership of 142, to see Ajuba replying with 187 for 4 off 14.1 overs, and a place in the semi-finals.
And, Troumaca Starlight edged out Big League of Rose Bank by two runs.
Troumaca Starlight compiled 176 for 9 off 20 overs, as Donald Delpesche stroked 61 and Dorson Cottle, 33.
Jedi John 3 for 15 and Shangi John 3 for 39, shared the bulk of the wickets for Big League, whose response stopped at 174 for 8 off 20 overs.
Omalie Lavia, 42 and Ozico Williams, 38, tried in vain to save the day for Big League.
Dorson Cottle was the pick of Troumaca Starlightâs bowling, picking off 3 for 28.(RT)
