Brighton Star Blocks win Stubbs football final
Brighton Star Blocks defied the record books and upstaged the much fancied GECCU Awesome Calliaqua, to walk off from the Stubbs Playing Field last Sunday as the champions of the 2016 South East Development Inc. Inter- Community Football competition.{{more}}
Calliaqua, the more accomplished team, took an early lead through Omar Cupid. Despite trailing, Brighton Star Blocks did not allow Calliaqua to run away from them.
Two second half items came from Raphique Bowens who registered a penalty, before Jafel Antoine punching the winner, as Brighton Star Blocks came from behind to champ 2-1.
The two had earned the right to the final with contrasting wins in the semi-finals. Calliaqua stopped Volcanoes 3-0, while Brighton Star Blocks edged out Hairoun Groove Street Ballers, 1-0.
Hairoun Groove Street Ballers took the third place 3-0 in the play-off against Volcanoes which preceded last Sundayâs final.
Registering for Groove Street Ballers were Sajred Mc Dowald who netted a brace and Jowan Sawyers, the other.
Brighton Star Blocks for the win got themselves $1200, a trophy and a hold of the Challenge Shield, while Calliaqua received the second place trophy and $800 and Groove Street Ballers, $500 and a trophy.
