‘Vinlec has to light Cumberland Playing Field’ – PM Gonsalves

Despite being complete and its commissioning protracted, those anxiously awaiting use of the Cumberland Playing Field have been assured that lighting will be installed.{{more}}

This assurance came from Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, as he spoke at the re-opening of the Chili Playing Field recently.

“There is a policy wherever Vinlec has a power plant and there is a facility which needs to be lighted, Vinlec has to do it…. The same way at Cumberland, Vinlec has to address that one…The next big one for Vinlec is Cumberland,” Gonsalves stated.

The Cumberland Playing Field, which is located in the North Leeward constituency, has been under construction for more than a decade and was finally completed last year, but it is yet to be opened.

Its latest upgrade and completion was put at a cost of EC$1.2 million.

Gonsalves noted that it was Vinlec which undertook to light the South Rivers Playing Field at a cost of $300,000, as the power company has a hydro plant in that community, the same way they had lit the hard court in Cumberland as well.

He also related that Vinlec has other plants in other areas, but there are no playing fields within the vicinity.(RT)
