The club will be soon be embarking on the necessary refurbishing to make the court tennis-ready.
Chair of the GTC Grant Connell told SEARCHLIGHT that his club is pitching for a start by the end of this month.
Connell said that since the clubâs removal from the Haddon Hotels courts on Murrayâs Road, they have been seeking alternative places of operations.
âWe have started in Petit Bordel in September and now we are heading north again to Fancy, as we seek to bring that type of tennis energy which we have known for the past six years or so,â Connell related.
Connell said that the Fancy community is all hyped and excited about a relatively new sport coming to them.
âWith the granting of permission by the National Sports Council and support from the likes of persons like Tajoe (Maxwell Francis), we are on to something special for the young people of Fancy,â Connell declared.
Connell revealed that the GTC will be looking to twin the tennis with football to bring to the people of Fancy a package.
Buoyant about the clubâs recent undertakings, Connell projected, âWith Petit Bordel up and serving, in three years, we may have a few more courts and the inter-village competition would surfaceâ¦Eventually, the top players from each court would come to the National Tennis Centre from both leeward and windward sides, so when a national champion is crowned, we know it would be a reflection of the talent from the length and breadth of the island.â
Connell believes that all players must be given that equal opportunity to serve and rise to the top.(RT)
