Vincentian field athletes to gain from Grenadian coach
Grenadian field events coach Paul Phillip will, over the next two weeks, work with Vincentian athletes in the shot putt, javelin and discus events.
Phillip, who is the guest of Team Athletics SVG, will be conducting sessions at various venues. His itinerary includes sessions with the Thomas Saunders Secondary, the St Vincent Grammar, the Central Leeward Secondary, and Sandy Bay Secondary schools, as well as open sessions at the Grammar School Playing Field this Saturday and Sunday.{{more}}
This is Phillipâs second visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) for a similar undertaking, having made his first visit back in February, 2014.
An IAAF Level three certified field coach, Phillip is the founder of the St Davidâs Track Blazers in his native Grenada. That club has won the Grenada National Championships for eight successive years of its 10 years of existence.
Also, Phillip has assisted the St Davidâs Catholic Secondary School to 16 titles at the Intercollegiate Games in the Girls Division and more than five top finishes in the Boys Division.
He holds a long list of achievements under his belt, as several of his charges have blossomed not only in Grenada, but on the regional and international scene.
Among Phillipâs stand out is Shamir Thomas, who has the most medals at Carifta by an individual.
Also excelling, thanks to Phillip, has been Keron Francis, who has four Carifta gold medals in the javelin and combined events and Anderson Peter, who has the most gold medals in a single event â the javelin, also at the annual Junior Carifta Games.
At the 2014 Carifta Games in Martinique, Phillip, who was the field coach of the Grenada team, realized four medals of the countryâs six attained at that championships.
A release from Team Athletics SVG has stated that an invitation was extended to local coaches to attend the sessions conducted by Phillip.(RT)
