SVG Rugby Union welcomes expert

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Rugby Union (SVGRU) now has the services of a rugby coaching expert.

Ruben Duque, who was selected by the World Rugby Union, will visit St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) over the next four months and will, among other things, help develop rugby sevens, which is an Olympic sport, as well as support the Union by analyzing its existing structures and conduct meetings, clinics and coaching sessions.{{more}}

Duque’s mandate also includes conducting courses for persons involved in coaching rugby sevens and the schools “Get into Rugby” programme.

In welcoming Duque, president of the SVGRU Sophie Goddard stated: “It is hoped that after Ruben’s visits and analysis of the Union as a whole, we’lal be in a better position to develop our local coaches and persons involved in the Union, so we have more structure and development pathways for the future.”

Goddard admitted that the Union’s administration was acceptable; however, it was the sport’s structure that was lacking in solidity.

Duque’s visit was made possible by an Olympic Solidarity Grant, which was conduited through the St Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee (SVGOC).

To this end, Goddard thanked the SVGOC for its input in helping to make possible the expert’s visit to SVG.

Duque will continue some of the work done by Englishman Mike Jackson, who was here for six months, on a voluntary attachment.(RT)
