Slater bosses HP 5K road race
Akani Slater took the High Performance (HP) 5k road race, staged last Sunday as part of Team Athletics SVGâs calendar of road events.
The narrow framed dreadlocked Slater, who ran under the IT-DAT Academyâs banner, topped both the overall category and the male Under-20, as he finished the course in 15 minutes 4.00 seconds.{{more}}
Slaterâs triumph was one of four categories won by IT-DAT Academy.
Also succeeding for IT-DAT were OJ Jackson, Sorenya Miller and Slyford Lampkin.
Jackson copped the male 20 and over age group in a time of 18 minutes 10.28 seconds, while Sorenya Miller was the lone entrant in the female 20 and over. She finished the distance in 21 minutes 38.72 seconds.
And, Lampkin was ahead of the pack in the male Under-18. Lampkinâs time was 15 minutes 57.38, as he tried to catch up with Slater, but to no avail.
The other age categories, male and female Under-16 and female Under-18 were secured by High Performance.
Cadique Stephens ran solo in male Under-16, to win in 23 minutes 35.50 seconds, while promising distance athlete Zita Vincent ran away with the female side, clocking 19 minutes 10.15 seconds.
And, HPâs Carol Browneâs 25 minutes 52.28 seconds was the best effort in the female Under-18.
Last Sundayâs race began at CK Greaves Supermarket at Pembroke and ended at the Double S Supermarket in Layou.(RT)
