Held to dovetail with the Vincy Heat versus USA football match, which took place last Friday at the same venue, the initial intent of the organizers was to woo regional and international participation. With this falling through, organizers turned to local participation, with invitations sent to teams.
However, more tweaking was needed on the day, as only four of the teams kept their promise to be part of the affair, which was set for two days.
In the end, for a worthwhile day, it was Vincy Masters who won their two matches and are set to pocket the $1,500 which was at stake for the champions.
Facing General Hardware/Moulton Mayers Murrayâs Village in the final, a goal each from Kevin Orsie and Dexter Walker gave Vincy Masters the top prize and bragging rights.
The score line may have been wider, had it not been for the heroics of Murrayâs Village custodian Rohan Soleyn, who brought off some spectacular saves.
Murrayâs Village are in line to collect the second place prize of $1,000.
Before reaching the final, Vincy Masters, in their opening fixture, beat Sion Hill 3-1. Scoring for Vincy Masters were Marlon James, who netted a brace and Kevin Orsie, the other. Randy Patrick replied for Sion Hill.
In the other qualifying match, Murrayâs Village saw off RSVG Police 3-0, with items scored by Dillon George, Paul Kirby and David Blucher.
Sion Hill went on to beat RSVG Police 4-3 in sudden death kicks from the penalty spot in the third place play-off. The decisive kicks became necessary after both teams had played to a goalless draw in regulation time.
Sion Hill are earmarked to get $500 for their efforts.
