Winners decided in 2016 senior Bequia Basketball Tournament

Southern Stars and Wizards completed championship honours last Saturday night, as the 2016 Vita Malt Bequia Basketball Tournament concluded at the Clive Tannis hard court.

Southern Stars completed a 2-0 trumping over Young Duke to take the Second Division, winning game two, 56-44.{{more}}

Leading the way for Southern Stars was Camal Bess with 24 points and 29 rebounds, while for Young Duke, Jermaine John registered 19 points.

Likewise, Wizards did not allow East Blazers to rebound and won the best of five series 3-1, by taking game four 78-68. Dareo Glasgow poured in 19 points and pulled down 22 rebounds, while Elton Joseph had 18 points for East Blazers.

Meanwhile, the individual awards dished out in the Second Division saw Donjay Peniston of Young Duke getting three awards – most steals (55); most assists (32) and most blocks (8).

Southern Stars’ Camal Bess had the most points – 198, as well as the most rebounds – 104.

Bess scooped the division’s MVP for his 198 points, 104 rebounds 12 assists, 30 steals, and 10 blocks in eight games. He was also the MVP of the playoff series.

Taking the award for most improved player in that division was Michael Peniston and he was the recipient of a pair of sneakers, courtesy of overseas based national player Cregg Friday, who is residing in Taiwan.

The MVP list in the Second Division read: Camal Bess – Southern Stars, Jovanni Derrick – Blazin Heat; Jadley Bynoe – Rising Stars and Shian Farrell – Wizards.

And, the First Division MVP recipients were Dareo Glasgow – Wizards, Steveon Taylor – East Blazers, Jonas King – Generals and Kirstin Lampkin – Raptors.(RT)
