WICB Under-19 Cricket Tournament ends

The 2016 West Indies Cricket Board Under-19 Cricket Tournament closed off last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, with the presentation of awards for teams and individuals in the three-day competition, as well as the limited over format.{{more}}

In the 50-over competition, Tyrone Williams of the Leewards scored the most runs – 278. The wicketkeeper with the most dismissals (12) was Joshua Persaud of Guyana. He had eight catches and four stumpings.

Tyrone Williams had the highest individual score (132), while Guyana’s Keeno Paul was the Best All Rounder.

Paul, one of the stand-outs in the West Indies Under-19 team’s win in Bangladesh last February, scored 194 runs and added 15 wickets to his name.

Taking the Most Disciplined Team were the Windward Islands.

The three-day format resulted in Trinidad and Tobago’s Kirstan Kallicharan accumulating the most runs (221).

Jamaica’s Javar Royale scalped the most wickets (25) and was the Best All Rounder, as he added 157 runs to his wickets tally. Javel Glynn of Guyana had 10 catches, while Leniko Boucher’s 119 was the highest individual score.

Prior to last Sunday’s formal closing and presentation ceremony, the final of the Super-50 took place, and resulted in Guyana retaining the title, beating the Windwards by five wickets.

The Windwards were dismissed for 142 off 42.2 overs. Johnel Eugene – 42 and Emmanuel Stewart – 22, were the main scorers, while Keeno Paul had 3 for 16 and Looknauth Chinkoo 3 for 32, bowling for Guyana.

In response, Guyana reached 145 for five off 43 overs, with Bhaskar Yadram, 41 not out, Raymond Perez, 24 and Sherfane Rutherford, 21.

Bowling for the Windwards, Jonathan Taylor had 2 for 16 and Alick Athanaze, 2 for 27.

The three-day truncated competition, which saw the six teams playing three matches each, was won by Trinidad and Tobago.

The ICC Americas joined Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, the Windward Islands, the Leewards, Barbados and Jamaica in the limited overs segment.(RT)
