Hornets sting Dragons to take Bequia U-16 basketball title

Hornets came from a game down against Dragons to land the Under-16 Division of the 2016 Vita Malt Bequia Basketball Tournament.

The 2-1 win in the best of three was completed last Sunday night at the Clive Tannis hard court, with Hornets trumping 40 to 24.

For Hornets, Tristin Stowe led with 13 points and added 10 rebounds to the good, while for Dragons, Omario Louie had 14 points and 10 rebounds as well.{{more}}

On Saturday, Hornets had levelled the series 1-1 after completing a 46-38 win.

Stowe was also the lead player for Hornets, registering 19 points, 12 rebounds; and for Dragons, Louie counted 13 points and 11 rebounds.

But it was Dragons who took the ascendancy in game one on Friday evening, taking down Hornets 72 to 52.

Louie bossed proceedings, pouring in 39 points, with 28 rebounds and 17 steals to his credit, and for Hornets, Stowe pulled down 16 rebounds.

The First and Second Divisions are to be decided this weekend.

Seeking supremacy are Wizards and East Blazers.

Wizards have taken a 1-0 lead in the series, by beating East Blazers 63-60 in match one of the best of five series.

Dareo Glasgow – 20 points and 12 rebounds – led Wizards’ charge, while Steveon Taylor scored 15 points, in a losing effort for East Blazers.

Battling for honours in the Second Division are Southern Stars and Young Duke, in a best of three play-offs.

Southern Stars outpointed Blazing Heat 67-51, while Young Duke had the better of Rising Stars by a 73-65 result.

Depending on the outcomes of the matches, the tournament can close off Saturday or Sunday with the presentation ceremony.(RT)
