Deron Greaves opens NL cricket competition in style

Deron Greaves ushered in the 2016 VINLEC North Leeward T20 cricket competition with a century last Saturday at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.

Greaves, a left-hander, slammed 134 not out, while Desron Maloney missed out on triple figures, as he made 97. Their efforts pushed defending champions Circumstance of Fitz-Hughes to 291 for 2 from their 20 overs.{{more}}

In reply, Coulls Hill Rangers were 109 all out off 16.3 overs. Desron Maloney grabbed 3 for 9.

On Sunday, Upsetters of Chateaubelair defeated Robertson Surveying Future Legends of Rose Hall by two wickets. Batting first, Future Legends scored 136 all out off 17.3 overs, as Marcus Castello top scored with 30. Cklon McKie’s 4 for 24 was the best bowling result for Upsetters. Chasing the target, Upsetters reached 138 for 8 off 17.5 overs. Leading the way was Maxwell Edwards, who made 36.

Bowling for Future Legends, Vernardo Primus had 2 for 27 and Amansford Richards, 2 for 28. The tournament continues this weekend with four matches.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m., RSVG Police meet Sharps United and from 1:30 p.m., RSVG Police take on Starlight, as the lawmen play back to back.

Sunday’s first match bowls off at 10 a.m. and features Peto Stars and Rose Bank United; then Somerset faces Big League from 1:30 p.m.

Fourteen teams would be participating in the tournament.(RT)
