Vincy cyclists return creditable efforts from Bahamas outing
St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ two representatives, Zefal Bailey and Enroy Lewis, did not end up with podium places in The Bahamas in the VVIV Cycling Meet from August 12 to 14, but returned creditable efforts in the three-stage event.{{more}}
Bailey was sixth in the individual time trial in 14 minutes 29 seconds and Lewis, eighth in 14 minutes 50 seconds.
The criterium saw Bailey clocking one hour 37 minutes 43 seconds, which placed him fifth, with Lewis registering one hour 45 minutes 19 seconds, which docked him eighth.
Bailey timed three hours 16 minutes 04 seconds to finish fifth in the 80-mile road race. Lewis followed him in sixth place in a time of three hours 29 minutes.
When the three stages were grouped, Baileyâs overall time was 5 hours 8 minutes 16 seconds and Lewis â 5 hours 29 minutes 9 seconds, which placed them fifth and sixth respectively in the overall standings.
The two Vincentians were accompanied by Emmerson Holder, who doubled up as team manager and mechanic.
Michael Hernandez of the USA was the overall winner.
Meanwhile, Bailey and Lewis will join other regulars in local competition on August 28, when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union resumes its 2016 road racing calendar.(RT)
