Top Shottaz Squady off mark in Greiggs Softball Cricket

Top Shottaz Squady, the defending champions of the Hairoun Brewery, Sea Operations, Nar Fren Dem Greiggs T/20 Softball Cricket Competition, have made a winning start in the 2016 edition.

When the competition began in earnest, Top Shottaz Squady overcame Combine Sixerz by six wickets at the Greiggs Central Playing Field, in Sunday’s feature match.{{more}}

Combine Sixerz batted first and made 123 in their 20 overs. Wesrick Straugh top scored with 48, while Travis Cumberbatch took 3/13 and Cody Jarvis 3/27.

In their reply, Top Shottaz Squady scored 124 for 4 in 14.2 overs. Leading the charge was Stein Joseph, who stroked 41.

Also triumphing in the opening round of matches were Street Fighters, Country Meets Town Outa Trouble, Sion Hill Tallawahs and Dr Thomas Injectors.

Street Fighters crushed Roger’s Photo Studio Fyah One by nine wickets on Saturday.

Batting first, Fya One had no resolve for the bowling of Anthony Barker, who took 4/13 and Derik Hooper – 4/14, and packed in at 41 all out.

Jamarl Ryan then powered 27, as Street Fighters rushed to 27 for 1 in just 35 overs.

Meanwhile, Outa Trouble sent Bank of SVG All Starz into a deficit, but by a mere run in an exciting finish, in Saturday’s second fixture.

Outa Trouble scored 98 all out in 193, with Javil Harry leading the way with 55. Bowling for All Starz, Ron Adams took 3/9 and Dwayne Williams 3/12.

However, All Starz fell short by the narrowest of margins, dismissed for 97 in 16 overs.

Glenroy Dasent’s 25 was the top score. Roneke James took 5/37, bowling for Outa Trouble.

It was, however, a no contest in Sunday’s first encounter, when Sion Hill Tallawahs faced Nice Radio Clinchers.

Erwin Williams stroked 71, as Sion Hill Tallawahs piled up 200 for 5 from their 20 overs. Oheyon Toby took 2/29, bowling for Clinchers, who then stopped at 77 for 8 from their corresponding 20 overs.

Sion Hill Tallawahs ran out winners by 123 runs.

And, the competition was hit with an early blow, as RSVG Police failed to show when they were set to meet Dr Thomas Injectors in Sunday’s second scheduled match.(RT)
