Lead organizer of the National Fisher Folks football team Winsbert Harry has revealed that the participation in the Digicel/Aeropost/St Vincent Brewery Firms’ Invitational Tournament, which is being held at the Grammar School Playing Field, is a “planned approach”.{{more}}

The team is into its third year of participation in the tournament, having previously been named Fisheries; however, this year came the name change.

Harry told SEARCHLIGHT: “It is all about us building an image of the fisherfolk here in St Vincent and the Grenadines and taking part in this football tournament is just one of the ways in doing so.”

He noted that the name change was to be more inclusive, as it brought more focus on the fisherfolk instead of the broad area of Fisheries.

Harry is hopeful that while it is through sport, the involvement of the fisherfolk in football can be another way of adding value to the important sector and the contribution they make towards helping to feed the nation.

The National Fisher Folks are grouped alongside defending league winners – the Ministry of Education, BRAGSA, Bonadies, SVG Port Authority, Combined Couriers, Coreas Hazells Inc, Digicel, Customs and Toni Combine Stores.(RT)
