Vincentian cricketer throws his name in PLs’ ring
Vincentian cricketer Kesrick Williams believes that his success in the just concluded Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will serve his cause to be in line for other Premier Leagues across the globe.
Williams, a right arm fast bowler, played a pivotal role in helping 2016 champions, the Jamaica Tallawahs, lift the title.{{more}}
He was the Tallawahsâ leading wicket taker with 17 wickets, and was third in the wicket taking column.
More so, Williams was named in the CPL XI and received the award for taking the best catch in the tournament, dubbed the Republic Bank Classic Catch.
Speaking to the media on his arrival back home last Wednesday, Williams noted his intent to build on his recent exploits.
âI just want to continue from there and where 20/20 cricket is concerned, I was asked by some of the players and by the manager to put myself in the draft for the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League)… So, from here on in, it is hard work and consistency; be humble and be hungry for it and continue to do the job,â Williams projected.
Apart from seeking to up the ante by becoming a contender for the other lucrative premier leagues, Williams is eyeing a look in at the regional level, and as he put it, âTo have the selectors thinking about meâ.
Williams, 26, has represented the Windward Islands in the regional four-day tournament and the Combined Campuses and Colleges in the regional Super-50 and the then Caribbean Twenty/20 Tournament, but with minimum success.
He, however, thinks he picked up some knowledge during his stint with the Tallawahs, playing alongside the likes of South African fast bowler Dale Steyn and former West Indies senior team captain Chris Gayle.
Williams noted that after getting over being âstar-struckâ from being in the presence of Steyn, he began to make use of his advice.
âHe (Steyn) would always say to me, when you out there and you are bowling to Amla (Hashim), to (Brendon) Mc Cullum, you are bowling to these top players, look at them as if you are playing club cricket…. They have a job to do, you have a job to do, so just go out there and do your job,â Williams shared.
Williams said that Steyn encouraged him to continue to bowl the variations in speed and length, which are good tools for a bowler to have in the Twenty/20 format.
While buoyant about his latest achievements, Williams said that he cannot get too much ahead of himself, as maintaining his fitness and other attributes is important.(RT)
