Petit Bordel hard court taking shape for tennis
The hard court located at the Petit Bordel Secondary School is being reshaped to facilitate the playing of tennis.
Making the first serve in this venture is the Grassroot Tennis Club (GTC), which carried out some training sessions at the same courts some years ago.{{more}}
Head of the GTC Grant Connell outlined to SEARCHLIGHT the intent of his club.
âHaving gained permission from the National Sports Council, the GTC has started to make good on its promise to unearth talent in the rural area, via the Police Youth Programme by their coordinators who participated in the training programme at the GTC earlier this year,â Connell stated.
Connell revealed that some preparatory work was done last Tuesday, which entailed lining of the court, with erecting of the poles set for next week.
He said that while the work, which was overseen by Sydney Lopez of Barbados, was being carried out, interest in the game was shown by youngsters from the vicinity to play some shots.
âThe youths came out and were very interested, even lending a hand in the preparations … This is an indication of the thirst in the community for the sport,â Connell advanced.
An optimistic Connell believes that with the blessings of the Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders, tennis could be rolled out during the next school term.
âThe court looks alive…..itâs our intention to bring the energy of GTC to the areas where we fix the courts…..The hard courts and playing fields must come alive and give the youths in the area somewhere to vent their energies,â Connell noted.
The Grassroot Tennis Club formally began operation in February 2010, and is based at the Haddon Hotel courts at Murrayâs Road.(RT)
