Bentick lauds OECS efforts at Junior CASA 2016

Vincentian James Bentick, one of two coaches who was part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) outfit for the 2016 MAPLES Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA), has lauded the efforts of his charges.{{more}}

Bentick, who along with Joe Kneipp of the British Virgin Islands, made up the OECS’ technical team, commended the team in the face of “very strong competition”.

The 2016 edition, which was hosted in the Cayman Islands from July 16 to 24, saw the subregional grouping place fourth in the boys team segment.

In addition, individually, the OECS copped three second places, as well as a consolation winner.

Vincentian Kai Bentick placed second in the Boys Under-15; so too did his countryman Jason Doyle, who was the runner–up in the Boys Under-19.

Meanwhile, Darci Reich of the British Virgin Islands was second in the Girls Under-11 and took the consolation prize in the Under-13.

Luca Reich, Darci’s brother, was sixth in the Boys Under-13.

Also sisters Thandi and Deirai Myers, both of St Vincent and the Grenadines, were fourth and sixth respectively in the Girls Under-19.

The other two Vincentians on the OECS team Mikal Quashie and Giovanni Miller- Alexander were 13th in their respective age groupings.

Quashie contested the Boys Under-17 and Miller-Alexander, the Girls Under-15.

Guyana copped the overall team title for the 11th time in succession; Barbados took second place and third was the host nation – the Cayman Islands.(RT)
