Another Open Water Swim event August 21
Following close on the heels of the successful hosting of an Open Water event on the Grenadine island of Bequia on July 31, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation, in conjunction with the Buccama Bay Resort, will host another on Sunday, August 21.{{more}}
Utilizing the waters in the vicinity of the resort, two events will take place â a 1.5km race and a challenging 5km swim.
Competition in the 1.5 km race is open to the age categories for both males and females â 9 to 13; 14 to 15; 16 to 17 and 18 and over, while in the 5km, the 9 to 13 age group would not be permitted.
The first race, the 1.5km is set to swim off at 11 a.m., and the 5km, half an hour later.
The August 21 events will extend the distances of the previous ones held in Bequia.
When the last Open Water event took place, there were the 750m and the 1,500m races.
Copping the top place in the 750m race was Tristan Ballah of Blue Marlin Swim Club, whose winning time was 14 minutes 28.21 seconds.
Second was Kelly Jacobs of the Owia Swim Programme in 15 minutes 37.89 seconds, while Aidon Trotman of the Black Sands Swim Squad was third in 17 minutes 36.31 seconds.
Ballah and Jacobs competed in the 9-13 age bracket and Trotman, the 14 to 15 age grouping.
And taking the 1,500m race was Black Sands Swim Squadâs Cruz Halbich, whose 21 minutes 28.41 seconds bettered Aaron De Freitasâ by some distance. De Freitas, also of Black Sands Swim Squad clocked 23 minutes 17 .51 seconds.
Completing the top three finishers was Tyrell Raguette of the Bequia United Swim Club, who timed 23 minutes 31.61 seconds.
Halbich and De Freitas were in the 14-15 age group and Raguette, the 16-17.
Six swimmers vied for honours in the 750m and there were 12 in the 1,500m. (RT)
