National TT titles decided
The top senior menâs title in the 2016 National Table Tennis Championships was decided last Thursday night at the West St George Secondary School.{{more}}
The final result showed the defending champion, Damion Dublin, being unseated by Carlton Daniel.
Daniel won the showdown 4-3(11/6, 11/8, 5/11, 6/11, 11/5, 10/12, 11/6).
Before meeting Dublin, Daniel ousted Sean Stanley 4-2(11/7, 11/8, 9/11, 6/11, 11/7, 11/7).
In Dublinâs semi-final match up with Robert Ballantyne, he trumped 3-1 (11/8, 4/11, 11/8 11/8, 11/8).
While Dublin lost in his bid to remain national champion, Andre Mitchell held on to his junior title by defeating Rondre John 10/12, 11/4, 11/7, 11/7.
Mitchell had first beaten Jamia Williams 11/5, 11/3, 11/3, while John got past Mikel Hazelwood 11/4, 11/7, 11/7.
Meanwhile, Leah Cumberbatch, who is the reigning primary schoolsâ females singles champion, took the girlsâ junior title.
On her way to another national title, Cumberbatch defeated Somma Howard 11/5, 11/1 and saw off Deshonte Baptiste 11/7, 11/7 in the final.
And in the pre-cadet boys final, Caleb Howard beat Juwan Howard 12/10, 4/11, 11/8, to win the title.
Prior to the Howardsâ final, Caleb bettered Jayden Hamilton 11/5, 11/3 and Jwan overcame Nathaniel Slater 11/4, 11/4.
Andre Mitchell was voted the Most Improved Player and Caleb Howard the Most Promising Player.(RT)
