Country Pirates take revenge on Leeward Invaders in Rugby 15’s

Country Pirates turned the tables on Leeward Invaders when the two met at the South Rivers Playing Field recently in the final of the SVG Rugby Union’s 15’s league competition .

It was a lopsided affair, as the Pirates routed the Invaders 76-8, as the two vied for the Aeropost Island Cup, the symbol of local club rugby.{{more}}

Making conversion for the Pirates were Dellon Durrant with three, George Gruger – two, while Andrew Phillips, Phillip Alvis, Jamar Morgan and Chris Cannito had one apiece. Durrant, Alvis and Gruger also had a try each.

Pirates had led the first half 45-0, as they took advantage of the numerical superiority.

The second half saw Pirates add another 31 points, to Invaders’ 8.

It was sweet revenge for Pirates, as when both clubs met in May at the Petit Bordel Playing Field, it was the other way, as Invaders had triumphed, 42-17.

The other club which participated was Town Sharks.

The competition had earmarked five clubs; however, Canouan All Blacks and Trinity Rugby Club opted out.

Reports are that the competition clashed with exams at the Trinity School, while All Blacks pulled out because of a lack of players.(RT)
