Vincentian Linda Mc Dowall last Sunday in Guyana copped her first major regional title, when she ran away with the womenâs category of the annual Caricom 10k.
Mc Dowall, who in the last three years had to trail the field, reversed the picture, as she clocked 37 minutes 57 seconds, bettering the time of 39 minutes 40 seconds that she had registered in the Barbados event in 2015.{{more}}
Before last yearâs outing, Mc Dowall was fourth on both occasions in Trinidad and Tobago in 2013 and Antigua and Barbuda in 2014.
Second and third respectively to Mc Dowall, was the Guyanese duo of Euleen Josiah-Tanner and Andrea Foster. JosiahâTanner stopped the timer at 39 minutes 46 seconds and Foster at 40 minutes 37 seconds.
In the male category, Guyanaâs Cleveland Forde retained his title by registering a time of 32 minutes 56 seconds, to make it three on the trot and his fifth win in the event.
Second to Forde on Sunday was Curtis Cox of Trinidad and Tobago in 32 minutes 59 seconds and third was Guyanese Winston Missingher, in 33 minutes 28 seconds.
But while Mc Dowall was able to place in the top three, St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ representative in the male segment, Pamenos Ballantyne, finished outside the top three places.
Ballantyne, a six-time winner of the Caricom 10k, and who was third in last yearâs race held in Barbados, came in sixth this time around, in 35 minutes 09 seconds.
The race which began in front of the Caricom Secretariat in Liliendaal and ended at the Guyana National Park, was staged under the theme âPromoting Healthy and Peaceful Societies.â
The 10k race, which was the 12th edition, formed part of events which were held prior to the 37th hosting of the Caricom Heads of Government Conference from last Monday to Wednesday.(RT)
