Mc Dowall tops female awards at Grenada Nationals

Vincentian Linda Mc Dowall was named the top female senior athlete at the Grenada National Championships, which took place last Saturday and Sunday at the Grenada National Stadium.

Mc Dowall, representing her club IT-DAT Academy, took gold in the 800 m, 1500 m and 3000 m.{{more}}

There were also gold medal performances from other IT-DAT Academy athletes in Tarique John in the 200 m Under-18 males, Kasique Oliver in the men’s 800 m; Akani Slater – 400 m men’s, as well as Soreyna Miller in the 400 m women; Deslorn Lawrence – Under-18 females 200 m, and Tamara Woodley in the Under-18 females 800 m.

IT-DAT added the male open 4 X 400 m to their medals tally.

Two other Vincentians, Reberto Boyde and Javon Rawlins of X-Ceed and X-Cel Academy, also secured first places.

Boyde won both the 100 m and 200 m sprints for senior men, with times of 10.61 and 21.65 respectively, while Rawlins took the triple jump for Under-18 males with a leap of 13.40 metres.

Silver medal performances came from IT-DAT athletes Yornick Murray in the Under-18 males 400 m, in which he clocked 50.21 seconds; Kimorie Shearman, in the open men’s 100 m, timed 10.74 seconds, while Deslorn Lawrence, in the 100 m women’s, registered 12.60 seconds.

Also Tamara Woodley, in the Under-18 females 400 m, returned a time of 59.96 seconds, with Soreyna Miller, placing second as well in 200 m women’s race.

Pouching bronze medals were X- Cel’s Keron Arthur in the men’s 400m and Kayon Johnson in the males Under-18 800m, while Lafesha France of IT- DAT was third in the Under-18 females 400m and Bequia United’s Melanie Stowe was third in the women’s 200m.

Fifty – two athletes from the four Vincentian clubs were part of the Grenada National Championships.(RT)
