Bridges distanced his competitors in the 57-mile event for the elite category, clocking two hours 55 minutes 13 seconds. Second to finish was Zefal Bailey, almost 15 minutes later. Bailey’s time was three hours 9 minutes 15 seconds. Completing the podium finishers was Enroy Lewis, whose time was three hours 1 minute 27 seconds.

Cammie Adams, in three hours 23 minutes 10 seconds and Marlon Antrobus – three hours 40 minutes were the other two who endured to the end.

In traversing the 57 miles, the cyclists began at First Caribbean International Bank in Kingstown and headed to Colonarie on the Windward coast and returned to the Roundabout in Arnos Vale, then to Diamond twice, then finished at Villa Flat.

Also competing were the senior cyclists who did the same route, but circuited the Roundabout to Diamond lap once.

At the end of the 46 miles, it was Randy Wilkinson who was in the winner’s saddle in two hours 47 minutes 11 seconds.

Then came in Steve Ollivierre, in three hours 01 minute 52 seconds and Orel George in three hours 17 minutes 57 seconds, was third.

The seniors bunch on Sunday had a rarity, as it was without the ever present Peter Durrant, who was notably absent because of work commitments. Sunday’s race saw the National Olympic Committee providing cash awards to the podium finishers in both categories.

The SVG Cycling Union’s calendar will resume immediately following the Carnival celebrations, with a race on Sunday, July 10.(RT)
