Cyclists stand time trial at Argyle
A time trial last Sunday afternoon at Argyle ticked off another of the events of the 2016 St Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Unionâs calendar.
Called to show their strength and fitness, the masters did one loop of the course and the elite, two loops.
When the clock was stopped in the mastersâ segment, it was Randy Wilkinson who had the best time over the 2.4 miles distance. Wilkinson clocked 12 minutes 11.58 seconds, bettering Peter Durrantâs 12 minutes 15.84 seconds.{{more}}
Completing the podium finishers was Steve Ollivierre, whose time was 12 minutes 39.73 seconds.
Other masters who contested the time trial were Ore George and Martin Bollers, who timed 12 minutes 54 seconds and 13 minutes 34.99 seconds, respectively.
Registering the fastest time among the big bikers was Zefal Bailey, who covered the 4.8 miles in a time of 18 minutes 01.40 seconds.
Second to Bailey was Enroy Lewis â 19 minutes 00.52 seconds and Cammie Adams was third in 19 minutes 09.98 seconds.
Lucky Antrobus â 19 minutes 18.58 seconds; Samuel Lyttle – 19 minutes 19.02 seconds and Marlon Antrobus – 20 minutes 29.96 seconds, were the other cyclists in the elite category.
This Sunday, it will be more of endurance as a 46-mile race is in store for the masters and 57 miles for the elite cyclists.
President of the SVG Cycling Union Trevor âSailorâ Bailey confirmed at last Sundayâs race that Antiguan Jyme Bridges will fly in to give the local cyclists some regional challenge on their roads.
Also, Vincentian Orano Andrews who resides in Tortola, will prop up the national championships.
Sundayâs race begins at 2 pm in front of First Caribbean International Bank, heads to Colonarie then returns to the Roundabout at Arnos Vale, then to Diamond.
The seniors will complete their 46-mile distance at Howards Marine at Villa Flat on their return. The elite bunch will however have to do the Roundabout to Diamond one more time, to finish at Villa Flat – a distance of 57 miles.
Cash awards will be presented to the top three places on both categories.(RT)
