No place for Cordel Jack in Windwards women’s cricket team

Vincentian Cordel Jack did not find favour with lone selector of the Windward Islands senior women’s cricket team Steve Mahon, and is not part of the 14-member team for the regional tournament in Guyana, set for July 3 to 25.{{more}}

Jack, 34, a former West Indies player with 30 ODI and 13 Twenty/20 internationals to her name, was the most consistent batter for St Vincent and the Grenadines in the play-offs versus Grenada last month here at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

The right-hander top scored with 33 not out and took 1 for 20, in her team’s loss in the Twenty/20 fixture.

In the first of two 50-over matches, Jack again top scored with 36 and had 1 for 23, with her off spin.

She scored 18 not out and had one wicket for the cost of 23 runs.

Whilst no place was found for Jack, three Vincentians are part of the four-island group team.

Making the final cut are Stacy Ann Adams, Juliana Nero and Glendeen Turin.

Nero, also a former West Indies player, was named as the team’s vice-captain and Turtin is the wicketkeeper.

The team will be captained by current West Indies player, Grenadian Afy Fletcher.

Other Grenadians selected are Akeria Peters, Holly Charles and Rackel Williams.

The selectees from St Lucia are Qiana Joseph, Suailine Williams, Nerissa Crafton, Yasmine St Ange and Raylin Cooper and from Dominica – Rosilia Registe and Keisani Irish.

Former St Lucia and West Indies player Eugena Gregg is the team’s manager and Vincentian Cleton Burnett – coach.

The Windwards will, for the first time, contest the regional tournament as a single unit, as in previous years, each island did so separately.

Last year, there was a Southern Windwards team, which was made up of players from St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada, and the Northern Windwards, which was composed of St Lucia and Dominica.(RT)
