Omrey Mayers finishes top of leaderboard in Byrea Hill Sprint
The excitement of Motor Racing took to the streets of Byera on Sunday where the Vincy MotorSports Club (VIMOC) presented their Hill Sprint & Kart Klimb.{{more}}
Nine Race Cars made the trip to Byera to compete in two general classes for bragging rights for the years first high speed motorsport event.
Watched by scores of race enthusiasts, the drivers maneuvered around the curves and through the chicanes placed along the course, further testing the race car driversâ skills and mental awareness at the heart-stopping high speeds.
At the end of the day when all the smoke had cleared, the winners emerged with Omrey Mayers and his Toyota Blade sitting atop the drivers board with his overall best time of 55.6 seconds.
Mayers who topped the 2-Wheel Drive Class (2WD) was followed Jason Toney who placed second with a 56.60 second run driving a Toyota Corolla station wagon. In third place was Charlie Thomas driving a Mitsubishi Colt Turbo with a time of 56.80. Late entrant, Ali Clouden finished fourth in the 2WD Class driving his Mitsubishi Mirage to a time of 58.90 seconds. Unfortunately, the ever popular Shaundy St. Hillaire with this high powered Honda CRX had to retire from the event early after having gear box trouble in the practice rounds after he once again thrilled the crowd.
In the popular Four Wheel Drive Class (4WD), Top spot went to Franklyn King driving the Audi TT with a best time of 56.0 secondsâ¦just a fraction off the overall best time set by Mayers.
Following in second spot in the 4WD Class was Carl Joseph Jr., driving a Subaru STI in a time of 58.80. Third spot went to Brendan Williams in a time of 1:06.10, driving a Nissan Sunny 4WD. New VIMOC member and Barbadian national, Hadley Bourne took the fourth spot in the Class with his best time of 1:08.4 seconds driving a Subaru Forester. The Go-Karts took part in a few exhibition runs to entertain the crowd and to build up the interest in karting. The Kart club was invited to participate by the organizers with further plans to have them compete in the next event.
President of the Vincy MotorSports Club Sanjay Jiandani was pleased with the outcome and posited the need for more races if the Vincentian drivers are to improve. He thanked all the partners who made the event possible and looks forward to the next event coming soon.
A post-mortem of the event is scheduled to be held within a week, and the prize-giving on Saturday June 04, 2016 at the parking lot of Finishing and Furnishings Ltd., from 4 p.m.
