Head of the local womenâs committee Wayne Grant told SEARCHLIGHT that the day went well, in spite of heavy rains.
âI was heartened by the participation… It was the first time we had an Under-17 division and we are already planning for the 2017 and get younger girls involved,â Grant stated.
According to acting CONCACAF general secretary :âCONCACAF has created the Womenâs Football Day as a unique initiative to encourage greater participation from women of all ages in the game, while showing how sport can have a positive impact on education, health, and development.
âWe are convinced that there is an enormous growth potential within our region and we need to continue demonstrating that the sport offers significant opportunities to empower women beyond the pitch,â Howard added.
Started in 2015, the three specific programmes are recommended to the member associations, which are a grassroots festival, a three versus three or five versus five competition, or a festival skills challenge.(RT)
