Emerging footballers get SVGFF’s awards
Young footballers, who showed their wares in the Under-17 and First Divisions of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federationâs National Club Championships, were put under the spotlight last Sunday night, at the closing and presentation ceremony staged at the Victoria Park.{{more}}
Copping the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper award in the Under-17 Division was Delaney Quow, who was behind the bars for runner-up, Layou.
Meanwhile, Joash Nash of champion team Avenues United, won the Most Outstanding Defender accolade.
Another Avenues player, Trivis Fraser, got the Most Outstanding Midfielder award.
And, Carlos Solomon of System Three, who registered nine goals, was the divisionâs Top Goal Scorer.
Avenues and Layou were followed by North Leeward Predators and Green Hill, in that order, in the team awards. Fourteen teams vied for honours in the Under-17 Division.
As in the Under-17 Division, champions in the First Division Volcanoes also won the Most Outstanding Defender and Midfielder titles.
The effervescent Kishorn Durham was the top defender and Cruz Young bossed the midfield, as determined by the adjudicators.
Second-placed Richland Park Pride and Joy got the Top Goal Scorer award in the person of Nalroy Peters. His tally of goals was seven.
The other award, that of Most Outstanding Goalkeeper, was snapped up by John Williams of the third-placed team, North Leeward Predators.
1998 Hillside Rollers completed the top four places among the 24 teams.
Last Sundayâs awards ceremony, held at the Victoria Park, deviated from previous years, when it took on a semi-formal affair and was held indoors with trappings.
