SVG Customs wins regional sports tournament
Following the recently held 41st Caribbean Customs Sports Tournament, the SVG Customs Sports Association has scooped first place for the fourth time since the eventâs inception in 1981.{{more}}
This was announced yesterday, April 18, at a press conference detailing the results of the tournament which took place in St. Vincent from March 24 – 28.
President of the association Sandra Noel said that she is âpleasedâ with the outcome of the tournament, and congratulated all the members who played a part in the successful outcome.
There were a variety of sporting activities in which participants competed. Namely: mixed cricket, football, netball, basketball, dominoes, walking race, and the march past.
SVG took first prizes in mixed cricket, football, netball and dominoes; second place in the walking race; and third place in basketball.
Overall, Barbados placed second and Antigua and Barbuda placed third.
Other countries that took part in the tournament included St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, British Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos.
Former member of the SVG Customs Sports Association Chris Wilson said that the tournament was established to âfoster a better relationship among colleagues,â both locally and regionally.
Wilson congratulated the association on its win, and encouraged members to continue to strive for excellence. He also urged the business community to play a greater part in sponsorship of the association and hosting the tournament in future.
At the tournament, presentations were also made to special honourees, including Bishop Leopold Friday, Olive âPeggyâ DeFreitas and Steve Francis.
Sponsors of the tournament included SOL, C.K Greaves Supermarkets, Standard Shippers and Wilson Enterprises.
The next annual tournament will take place in Guyana. (JSV)
