Digicel SVG supports National Special Olympics Games 2016
As a show of its continued commitment to assisting persons here with disabilities and special needs, Digicel St Vincent and the Grenadines has again thrown its support behind the local National Special Olympics Games.{{more}}
The 2016 National Special Olympics Games were held here last week, from April 14 – 15, at Victoria Park; and featured a number of special needs children and young adults, who competed in a series of games and races.
Speaking at the official opening of the Special Olympics Games, Digicel country manager John Gidharry pledged his companyâs unremitting assistance to persons here with disabilities and specials needs.
Gidharry explained that the Chairman of Digicel, Denis OâBrien, is extremely passionate about ensuring that persons with special needs live as normal a life as possible.
The country manager added that before Digicel came to SVG in 2003, the company financed special needs and disabled persons here to attend the World Games in Ireland; and has continued to assist such persons here over the past 13 years.
Additionally, Gidharry highlighted that Digicel played an integral role in sending a contingent to the World Games in California in 2015, which saw team SVG returning with a total of 21 medals â 4 of which were gold.
Meanwhile, Digicelâs Marketing Manager Danielle Cupid said that the outstanding performances by the participants in the 2016 National Special Olympics Games serve as an indication that âwe are all champions in our own wayâ.
Cupid said Digicel is extremely pleased to be associated with the games for another year. This saw the company assisting in various ways; including providing a water tent to keep the athletes hydrated.
