Last Sunday at the Victoria Park, Avenues United was crowned as the Under-17 champions, defeating Layou in the final.

A sixth minute penalty, converted by Trivis Fraser, gave Avenues the ascendancy.

Avenues was cruising to victory, but Leon Wickham Jr had other ideas, as he scored the equalizer in injury time to send the match to extra time.

Avenues, however, got the good fortune of an own goal scored by Ziani Samuel, which handed them the title.

Joining Avenues on the title list was Volcanoes, who snuffed out the First Division top place from Richland Park Pride and Joy.

A goal each from Cruz Young, Arthur Laborde and Casnell Duncan made up Volcanoes’ three items. Nalroy Peters and Kelroy Fredericks found themselves on the score sheet for Pride and Joy.

Before Sunday’s final, Volcanoes defeated North Leeward Predators 2-1 in the semi-finals, while Pride and Joy had swamped 198 Hillside Rollers 5-0 in the other half.

Predators went on the take the third place.

Newly crowned champions Volcanoes and runners-up Pride and Joy will be elevated to the Premier Division of the next version of the National Club Championships.

The two’s elevation will come at the expense of four, which will be relegated from the 14-team premiership.

Reports are that when the premiership is convened, the ceiling of participating outfits will be reduced to 12 club teams.(RT)
