Peter Durrant maintains reign in masters’ cycling

Often overlooked because of the focus on the elite bunch of local cyclists, Peter Durrant has, however, caved out his own niche, as he continues to be dominant in the masters’ segment.{{more}}

A hero of sorts in the St Vincent and the Grenadines’ cycling world, Durrant, last Monday, National Heroes Day, took the masters division of the 32-mile road race.

Circling the Ratho Mill to Arnos Vale Roundabout route eight times, Durrant’s timing was 1 hour 53 minutes 50 seconds, as he finished second overall.

Durrant was the lone person in his age group to complete the distance, as Steve Ollivierre and Randy Wilkinson both dropped out. It was Durrant’s fourth straight triumph in races for 2016.

Taking the top spot in the race was Cammie Adams, who was finishing his first event for the year in his second outing.

Adams’ winning time was 1 hour 53 minutes 48 seconds. Taking the third place and second in the elite list was Zefal Bailey, who had won the previous three events. Bailey stopped the clock at 1 hour 53 minutes 57 seconds.

The others to complete the course were Canadian Charles Viel, whose 1 hour 54 minutes 10 seconds, placed him fourth; Lucky Antrobus – fifth in 1 hour 02 minutes 09 seconds and sixth was Okeyra Sylvester, who clocked 2 hours 20 minutes 0. 78 seconds.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines will hold its next race in April on a date and location to be confirmed.(RT)
