Sandy Bay pouch inaugural Under-15 schools’ cricket title
The Sandy Bay Secondary inked their name as the first winners of the Scotia Bank Junior Secondary Schools Under-15 Cricket Competition, which concluded on Monday.{{more}}
Facing the Petit Bordel Secondary at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, Sandy Bay ran away easy champions by nine wickets, ending the competition with 12 points.
Batting first, Petit Bordel were dismissed for 63 in 16.5 overs, as Kerano Nanton snared 5 for 15.
Player of the final Javid Baptiste then stroked 49 not out to see his team to 64 for 1. Baptisteâs innings included six fours and three sixes.
When it came down to the net run rate, the Thomas Saunders Secondary finished second and the George Stephens Secondary third, in the six-team round robin format.
Thomas Saundersâ Omarion Ottley was the best all-rounder, as he posted the most runs â 134 and had 11 wickets to his credit.
Another Thomas Saunders Secondary student, Ntini Delpesche, shared the top bowler award, as he and Tyrese Francis of the George Stephens Secondary both scalped 13 wickets.
Delano Moore of the George Stephens Secondary was adjudged the best wicketkeeper on show.
The other participating teams were the St Vincent Grammar School and the Dr JP Eustace Memorial.
Addressing the closing ceremony were Stanley Hinds, head of the organizing committee for the competition; Kishore Shallow, president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc; Beverly Neptune, deputy chief education officer and Norman Cumberbatch, who represented Scotia Bank.(RT)
