Twenty teams to contest Clinchers Softball Cricket Competition

Twenty teams will contest this year’s Police Co-operative Credit Union Clinchers Sports Club 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition.

The fifth edition opened last Sunday at the Richland Park Playing Field, otherwise known as “The Oval,” with the opening ceremony, which consisted of a march past, as well as speeches from sponsors and softball cricket officials.{{more}}

Among the teams listed to try to wrestle the title from Gairy Construction Simple Boys are other regular outfits in Bank of SVG All Stars, Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem, Street Fighters, CGM Gallagher Novice, Dr Thomas Injectors, Nice Radio Clinchers, Gomea Bombers, Sion Hill Tallawahs, RSVG Police and Out ah Trouble.

Completing the list are Rogers Photo Studio Fyah One, Smart Strikers, Budgmart Simple Touch, Mount Pleasant Strikers, Calder United, Fully Loaded, Church Boyz, Snipers Reloaded and Hitch Ups.

From the teams on show at last Sunday’s opening, Smart Strikers were adjudged the best dressed on show, with Bank of SVG All Stars second and Clinchers third.

Fyah One was the obvious choice for the best banner award, as they were the lone team which presented a banner at the parade of teams. Douglas noted that there has been ongoing training with the home based players and some drafted in from the ongoing National Club Championships.

Simple Boys will be looking to begin 2016 again on a winning note, as they attempt to keep hold of the five titles in their grasp.

Apart from the Clinchers title, Simple Boys are in command of the Biabou competition, the Lauders competition, along with the Top Belair Progressive Organization set-up and the Greiggs competition, albeit under the name Top Shotttaz Squady.

Speaking at the opening ceremony were area representative for the Marriaqua constituency St Clair Prince; vice-president of the Clinchers Sports Club Rohan Giles; president of the Police Co-operative Credit Union Junior Simmons; and executive member of the National Softball Association Patmos Richards.

Matches in the competition begin in earnest this weekend.(RT)
