Vincy Heat’s friendly with Costa Rica postponed

Local football fans who were gearing up to see their home team Vincy Heat and fellow CONCACAF team Costa Rica, which was set for the Arnos Vale Playing Field on December 16, will have to wait a little longer, as the match has been postponed.{{more}}

President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Venold Coombs confirmed this to SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday.

He listed the “unavailability of flights” as the factor that has caused the match to be postponed. The local football head noted that several attempts were made to have the Costa Ricans fly in by charter, but this alternative was deemed “too expensive.”

Coombs, however, could not give the new date for the international friendly.

Both St Vincent and the Grenadines and Costa Rica are in the semi-final round of the CONCACAF Zone of the World Cup qualifiers.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Vincy Heat is in Group C, along with Trinidad and Tobago, the USA and Guatemala, while Costa Rica is in Group B alongside Panama, Haiti and Jamaica.

They, however, are at opposite ends of their respective tables, following matches played on November 13 and 17.

St Vincent and the Grenadines is at the bottom of their grouping with no point, losing 1-6 to the USA and 0-4 to Guatemala. On the other hand, Costa Rica tops their group on six points from two wins. Costa Rica edged out Haiti 1-0, before going past Panama 2-1.

The Vincentians’ next pair of assignments is Good Friday, March 25, 2016, against Trinidad and Tobago here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, and four days after in the reverse fixture in Port of Spain.

Costa Rica visits Jamaica March 25 and the reciprocal encounter takes place March 29 in Costa Rica.(RT)
