On his re-election speech last Saturday afternoon at the Media Centre of the Arnos Vale Playing Field, Coombs emphasized, âI want the footballers to understand that football is in safe hands… Venold Coombs means well and continue to be that person … We are going forward with football… I am no false prophet…â
Making reference to his return and that of second vice-president Marvin Fraser from the previous executive, Coombs said it was an indication of âstabilityâ within the organization.
Coombs stated that Fraser is an âelement of stability, not an element of another thingâ
The president noted that the composition of the four elected members showed a geographic spread, as he and first vice-president Otashie Spring hail from the Windward side of mainland St Vincent; Fraser from capital Kingstown and Wayde Jackson from the Leeward town of Layou.
He said that this was an indication that the sport is poised to be developed in all areas.
âWe think we have done great for football … We think we can take it to higher heights … There are significant agreements we have… The close relationships which I have and we have with different international bodies, like the US Soccer Federation will grow,â Coombs added.
Coombs noted that scholarships and gear are among some of the projected items to be secured by his organization through these relationships.
The returned president thanked all who supported his team and stated, âWe are dedicated group for the advancement of football.â
The four committee members will be elected at a later sitting of the general membership, with Coombs having two additional appointees, which will bring the total to six.
The newly elected will serve for four years.
