North East head group into quarter-finals of SVG Masters Cricket Competition
Defending champions of the SVG Masters Cricket Competition, North East, defeated Stanley Browneâs Stubbs by 34 runs, last Sunday at the Park Hill Playing Field, to ensure they head the group going into the quarter-finals.{{more}}
North East posted 148 for 9 off 20 overs, with Peter Campbell making 30 and Hollis John 20.
Livingstone John, however, returned the excellent figures of 6 for 18.
But former winners of the competition Stubbs were unable to cross the line, stumbling to 114 for 6 from their 20 overs, despite Nixon Mc Leanâs 46 and Vincent Benjaminâs 27.
Bowling for North East, Hollis John took 2 for 12 and Cornelius Springer had 2 for 29.
On Saturday, Rate Your Boys Challengers beat Pastures by three wickets.
Rohan Ash â 57 and Elroy Nanton â 23, led Pasturesâ total of 141 for 6 from their 20 overs.
Desmond Duncan was the pick of Challengersâ bowling, taking 3 for 22.
Uzzah Pope then stroked 40 and Wayne Matthews was 33 not out, to channel Challengers to 142 for 7 off 17.4 overs.
Titmus Trimingham â 2 for 20 and Robbie Hackshaw â 2 for 34, shared the bowling honours for Pastures.
The weekendâs other match resulted in Park Hill gaining easy points via the default route over Marriaqua.(RT)
