IT-DAT athletes parade on Bequia 5k

Athletes from the IT-DAT academy all but swept the Bequia 5k road race which took place last Sunday afternoon.

In the first event of Team Athletics SVG 2015 road racing calendar, IT- DAT took the top spots in four of the five categories – Male and Female Under-19 and 19 and Over.{{more}}

First to cross the finish line was Caswell Lewis who copped the 19 and Over Males, in a winning time of 19 minutes 29.51 seconds.

Akani Slater topped the Male Under-19 segment and was second overall in 19 minutes 29.97 seconds, as IT-DAT athletes took the top five positions. Finishing behind Slater and second in the Under-19 Males was Ryan John in 19 minutes 30.51 seconds.

Slyford Lampkin was third in the Under-19 Males and fifth overall, timing 21 minutes 09.05 seconds.

Placing first in the Female 19 and Over age group was top female distance athlete Linda Mc Dowall, who clocked 19 minutes 39.09 seconds and was the fourth person to cross the end line.

The other top place for IT-DAT was achieved by Tamara Woodley, who claimed the Female Under-19 first place in 28 minutes 05.19 seconds. Second to Woodley was Ranalda Ollivierre of Bequia Swimming, in 29 minutes 51.02 seconds.

Meanwhile, Camron Alves, representing Bequia Swimming, won the Male Under-15, clocking 34 minutes 25.44 seconds.

He was followed by Dereckson Trimmingham of the Paget Farm Government School and Oshawn Hazell of Bequia United, completing the top three finishers in the Male Under-15.

Twenty-three of the 24 athletes who faced the starter’s orders completed the course.

The next event on the road racing calendar is the Biabou 5k, which takes place October 4, beginning at the Biabou Playing Field, making a circuit through the community and finishing at the starting point.

Registration forms are available from Rawlson Morgan or at the NOC Headquarters.

Persons wishing to participate will be allowed to register up to half an hour before race start time at 3 p.m.

A release from Team Athletics SVG states that this event is geared towards the athletes in Biabou and the surrounding communities; hence, medals will only be presented to theses athletes. However, other athletes wishing to use the event for training are welcome to participate and will be timed.(RT)
