More professional footballers needed – Caesar

Even though St Vincent and the Grenadines’ top footballers have good technical skills, more of them need to aspire to procuring professional contracts overseas.{{more}}

Placing this on the table was Minister of Agriculture and parliamentary representative for South Central Windward Saboto Caesar, as he addressed the opening of the 2015 National Lotteries Authority North East Football League last Sunday at the Chili Playing Field.

“It is one thing to be kicking ball on the fields; it is another thing to become a professional footballer… We do not have enough and sufficient young persons in our country looking towards football as a profession,” Caesar commented.

In lauding the efforts and programmes of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, Caesar reiterated, “At the end of the day, I want to see more professional footballers from St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Caesar also made the observation that there is work to be done on the fitness of many of the players.

“I also want us to work on our fitness… I looked at a few games that we have played at different levels and before half-time, everybody running around with their mouths open, like they gasping for air,” Caesar commented.

Other than Caesar, director of physical education and sports Nelson Hillocks, president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs and chair of the North East Football League Trevor Huggins gave remarks at Sunday’s opening.(RT)
