Milo Jump-start programme 2015 kicks off August 29
A series of free sport and nutrition clinics will be held at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, beginning Saturday, August 29.
The Milo Jump-start Programme for children seven to 16 years old was launched recently at the Buccament Bay Resort and is sponsored by Nestle Trinidad and Tobago and Milo.{{more}}
According to the organizers, the clinics will focus on the fundamentals of team building, nutrition, sports and academics.
Speaking at the launch, consumer relationship manager of Nestle Trinidad Mark Clarke said as a leading nutrition health and wellness company, Nestle recognizes its important role in encouraging consumers of all ages to lead healthy lifestyles, which includes regular physical activity.
He stated that the Jump-start programme will educate children and parents on team-oriented learning, promoting team work, social and communication skills necessary for higher education and the world of work; proper nutrition, teaching healthy eating habits to aid in the prevention of lifestyle diseases; exercise, promoting an all-round active lifestyle; and academics, underscoring the importance of education as an impetus for future success, which will be augmented via intellectual sports and career guidance talks for both the children and parents.
Keenan Charles, another representative from Nestle, disclosed that efforts would be made to include children from the Grenadines, as their aim is not to exclude anyone. He said the company would provide travel services to the venue for children and their parents.
Consumer marketing manager Geysha Thomas, in her remarks said after the event at the Arnos Vale stadium they would be going to various communities to link and synergize with the different coaches and persons in the community who can reach out to young people.
Head nutritionist of Nestle Shaunelle Mierse said sometimes parents do not pay attention to what they give their children to eat and drink before they perform in sports.
âWe are having an interactive segment with parents and guardians, educating them on how to nourish their kids in order to have performance. We going to teach parents how to prepare nutritious meals for their kids, how to keep their kids healthy and strong making sure they get sufficient vitamins, minerals and nutrients while they take part in their favourite sports.â
According to the organizers, the sports and nutrition clinics will promote the many benefits associated with participation in organized sports and physical activities and teach children that keeping fit can be fun. (JF)
